A tiny hidden gem. Great breakfast skillet (and great value!) I loved the homemade hot sauce so much, I bought a bottle.

Great food. Homemade oat toast and jam were super. Potatoes fries very tasty. And omelet with mushrooms, bacon and cheddar were delicious. Coffee was just right. Check it out. Ron (Montreal)

Have been coming on and off for years, and the food was always good but it has recently levelled up to super excellent! Also very friendly and helpful staff and a cozy place.

I have been going to this place for 8 years + and it’s always great. I miss the old management when they used to make “garlic sausage eggs benny” it was THE BEST. They have had the same cook, Rob, this entire time!! Their home made bread is a must try.

For the most part I've had only good experiences at Avalon. Unfortunately this morning I was less than impressed. I made a take out order, and when I got it home to dig in i discovered I was missing a bunch of my order. My boyfriend's meal was missing the toast and tomatoes, and my extra order of toast was nowhere to be found. The food we got was delicious and the service was friendly, but the fact that I paid for things I never got is not impressive. Especially since their toast and jam is half the reason I went there!Definitely not a take out spot.

Good food at great prices. Rarely the breakfast backups and lines of the popular downtown cures. Good backup for small groups when too hungry to wait in the cold at Blue Fox or Shine.

Quiet (for a reason). Don't know how anyone can give this a five. I can barely give it a three. Poached eggs in a bowl with lots of water at bottom, that were cooked to soft boiled egg consistency. Was looking forward to homemade oatbread and strawberry rhubarb jam but read was tasteless, jam was not really a jam. Presentation was non existent. Service, sausages and coffee okay. I would go here if I needed quiet but with so many other great breakfasts spots around ...why? Won't be back.

The oaten toast is too real! I suggest going w a gluten free friend so they can give you theirs :)

This is my favourite breakfast/lunch place. I enjoyed the decor, the homemade toast, jam & hot sauce. I walked by it forever before walking in, it kind of blends into the background but don't make the same mistake as me... run, don't walk, to Avalon.

The food is average and they straight up refuse to make their home fries any degree of crispy. Whether you ask for crispy, extra crispy, extremely crispy, or even - my personal favorite- "5 times whatever your definition of crispy is", they will be soft white potatoes every time. Not golden brown home fries.

The toast is very memorable. I have eaten there several times and have never been disappointed. I highly recommend this restaurant. I also love to support local businesses.

If you want a quick fill that’s easy on the wallet, this is the place. Is you want anything that resembles a food ‘experience’, not so much. Uninspired bland food. Friendly staff.

They are open again serving the same affordable wonderful honest food.Victoria’s secret restaurant gem with no hour long lineups.Very courteous service, good coffee and tea.- wish they might introduce 1 or 2 vegetarian options they would get more business from the vegans and vegetarian crowd.

Food excellent, service attentive and friendly. I took the classic and could not finish it, while in other places I can!! It is very filling you up with good food. They even have vegetarian or no carbs options. Very thoughful!

Keep your expectations low and you won't be disappointed. This is a compliment... very old school atmosphere here.

Delicious, chewy, housemade "oaten toast" is a must try. All served up in a bright, clean, simple cafe. Hit the spot for breakfast.

I ordered an omelette with feta. They left out the feta, so it was bland, along with everything else on the plate. I politely mentioned it to the waitress, but she couldn't understand what I was saying, so I gave up, paid my bill and left. It's not worth the effort. I just won't go back.

Avalon is a good spot for a cheap breakfast that tastes like it costs.Due the the number of high quality reviews I don't know if I just had a bad experience, but I found my breakfast tasted incredibly cheap and was poorly prepared. I ordered "The Cure" their $17 breakfast plate, and a latte. I found some of the ingredients to be of poor quality (eggs, ham, sausage were bland and cheap), and others to be poorly prepared (fried potatoes were a mix of cold and some crispy, "grilled" tomatoes were simply warmed through with no colour). My latte was little more than hot milk and some coffee grounds in coffee, and not worth $3.50 for the quality of the beans.The bacon was prepared perfectly, the mushrooms had great flavour (but there were far too few of them), and I did enjoy the house made oaten toast with the also house made strawberry rhubarb jam. I was very happy with my table side service from my server, and paid in full before leaving.

Had Caesar salad with soup and “toast.” Half the lettuce was brown, the soup taste like runny mashed potatoes, and the “toast” was more of a grainy brick. Bad experience all around and the waitress wasn’t very knowledgeable or experienced.

Wonderful Restaurant on Fort St. Don’t be fooled by the outside, the food is extremely tasty and the owners are always very friendly and helpful!Strongly recommend a visit for lunch!

Fantastic breakfast nook. Waaaay better than the overrated Blue Fox.

Cute little place for some food

I love this little place! I've only have breakfast but I've have it many times and it's great! I've never had to wait, which is rare in a weekend morning in Victoria. Service is friendly. Oaten toast is delicious!
